170 new firms registered at Bournemouth addresses in September, up from 118 in August: a Charminster Road bistro, a Westbourne café and a cycle workshop.

A total of 170 new companies were registered at Bournemouth addresses in September. That is up from 118 in August, on the same search of the Companies House register.

We counted every company incorporated between 1 and 30 September with a registered office in the BH1 to BH11 postcodes. The register was searched on 1 October.

The new cafés, shops and workshops

Most new companies are consultancies, property firms and online sellers with a home address. A handful have a shopfront address on a Bournemouth high street:

  • Charminster Bistro Ltd, registered 23 September at 104-108 Charminster Road, classed as an unlicensed restaurant or café
  • Brazilian Coffee House Ltd, registered 8 September at Streate Place, St Peters Road, in the town centre, also an unlicensed café
  • Cafe 283 Ltd, registered 16 September at 29a Seamoor Road, Westbourne
  • Lezzat Foods Ltd, registered 15 September at 342 Wimborne Road, Winton, a takeaway
  • Roma Via Ltd, registered 5 September at 522 Christchurch Road, Boscombe, also a takeaway
  • KBS European Market Ltd, registered 7 September further along at 540 Christchurch Road, classed as a market stall selling food and drink
  • Ascend Cycle Workshop Ltd, registered 9 September at 1147 Christchurch Road in BH7, which sells and repairs bicycles
  • Kadir’s Konvenience Limited, registered 11 September at 222 Old Christchurch Road, and Tony’s Offie Ltd, registered 18 September at 18 Westover Road, both convenience stores
  • B Three Golf Ltd, registered 18 September at Iford Golf Centre, classed as sports and recreation teaching

Hair and beauty had eight new companies. They include Bella 173 Ltd at 173 Old Christchurch Road and Honey Cove Studio Limited at 681 Wimborne Road.

What the new firms do

Every company gives at least one trade code when it registers. We grouped the 170 by the first code each lists.

Property is the biggest group. Six of its 24 are residents’ management companies, the kind set up to run a block of flats. Online selling is the other strong thread: 16 of the 170 list internet or mail-order retail among their trades.

Where they are

BH8, which takes in Charminster Road, had the most new companies, with 35. BH1 and BH2 had 28 each and BH9 (Winton) had 27.

The full split:

  • BH8: 35
  • BH1 and BH2: 28 each
  • BH9 (Winton): 27
  • BH7: 14
  • BH6 (Southbourne): 11
  • BH4 (Westbourne): 9
  • BH10 (Ensbury Park): 6
  • BH5 (Boscombe) and BH11 (Kinson): 5 each
  • BH3: 2

Fourteen other entries came up in the search but are not in Bournemouth, so they are not counted. Seven are on a Bournemouth Road in Chandler’s Ford, near Eastleigh. Three are in Poole, two at Bournemouth Airport in Christchurch, one in Blandford Forum and one in Wimbledon, London.

Why August’s figure changed

Our August story first reported 39 new companies. That came from a search that returned only part of the register. The same full search we used for September finds 118 for August, and that story now carries a dated correction. So the rise to 170 compares like with like.

What it means for you

A registration records an intention, not an opening. Some of these firms will become cafés and shops you can walk into. Others will trade from a spare room, and some will never trade. A registered office is not always the place of business either: where we name a street above, it is the address on the register.

Each name links to its free Companies House record. You can look up any company the same way and see its directors, filings and accounts. It is worth doing before you pay a deposit to a new firm.

For what is being built around them, see our Bournemouth planning news page.
